- Established in 1972 under the name “Davco Machine Ltd.,” Davco Solutions Inc. began as a small rented 1,500 square foot bay. Serving the local market, Dave Fenton built his business on a foundation of quality workmanship and commitment to his customers. Davco quickly gained a reputation for quality and innovation in the services they provided and the products they created.

- In 1980 Davco Machine Ltd. moved to the County Industrial Park and built the beginning of the existing shop today. Expansions also took place in 1985 and 1992.
- In 1989, Dave teamed with fellow inventor Les Oilund to develop the Ultimate harvester/processor Head, which brought the formation of Ultimate Forest Products. The company was later sold to Quadco.
| |
- In 1990 Dave received his first US Patent for a system for replacing feedroll inserts.
| |
- In 1992 Les and Dave teamed up again and received a US Patent for a guiding guard for crawler tracks.
| |
- In 1994 Les and Dave received another US Patent for the Ring Saw used on the Ultimate Harvester Head.
- In 1999, Dave’s daughter Janet Plante entered the family business and eventually took over in 2000. Janet expanded the shop again in 2002 and 2005 to the current building that exists today.
- Davco now operates out of a 30,000 square foot facility and employs about 50 employees. Their diverse operation includes machining, CNC machining, manufacturing, welding, fabricating, millwrighting, industrial engineering and heavy duty mechanical departments. Servicing the oil & gas, transportation, and manufacturing industries, Davco’s greatest strides have come from the forest industry.
| |
- In 2004, Dave Fenton and Les Oilund came together once again with plans to create a “bi-directional” portable sawmill. With Davco’s diverse infrastructure backing them up, these plans were realized with the creation of the automated Twin-Cut. Davco first launched the Twin-Cut prototype during the 2005 Northern Alberta Forestry Show in Grande Prairie.
| |
- In 2006 Davco received a Canadian and US Patent on the flow pattern and head rig of their Portable Automated Twin-Cut Sawmill.
| |
- At the 2007 Northern Alberta Forestry Show, Davco launched a vastly improved production model of the Twin-Cut sawmill. While the prototype continues to work in the field several improvements were made on the production model based on field tests of the prototype. The most obvious changes being the edger option was discontinued and a much simpler flow design was incorporated.
